Betty Lane Gilland Cole, age 60, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, December 26, 2011 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter "Dub" and Rosa Lane, sister Hester Jeffers, daughter Jennifer Cole, her first husband Bobby Gilland and his parents Stanley and Geneva "Nannie" Gilland.She is survived by her husband Charlie Cole of Knoxville, son and daughter-in-law Gene (Melissa) Gilland of Newport, step-daughters Charlene (Joe) Karl of Texas, Cristi Cole of Michigan, Carrie (Aaron) Vereeke of Michigan, brother Billy Lane of Newport, sisters Linda Maynard of Newport, Velma "Sissy" Nelson of Erwin, 10 grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews and her beloved dog Casper.Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2011 in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Ottinger officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Brown Funeral Home is honored to serve the Cole family.
