Mr. Donald Edgar Coakley Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Donald Edgar Coakley Sr. passed away Tuesday morning, February 1, 2022 at the age of 82. His long fought battle with illness showed his determination and stubborn streak that was well known. Despite the pain, Don continued to enjoy farming until the end.
He was a United States Army veteran. He retired as Major after thirty-seven years of service with the Newport Police Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kyle and Agnes Coakley; brothers Max, Holland, William (Bill), Neil, Jerry, Glen and Jeff Coakley and nephews Roger Coakley, David Coakley and Tim Coakley.
Don is survived by wife Anna Sue Barnes Coakley of Newport; children Donna Sue Jones (James) of Greenville, South Carolina and Donald Edgar Coakley Jr. of Newport, and he was a proud grandfather to his beloved granddaughter Ella Jones of Greenville, South Carolina. She was his pride and joy; special brother-in-law Billy Barnes. Additional survivors include many great nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will meet at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Union Cemetery for the 1:00 p.m. graveside service with Rev. Fred Cagle officiating. Military honors will be provided by Newport American Legion, Post # 41.
In consideration of the health and safety of all those attending the service, Costner-Maloy strongly encourages that all CDC guidelines be followed, including the use of face masks.
