Obituary: Earl C. Cates, age 85 of Hartford died Wednesday February 20, 2013 at the Tennova Newport Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Isaac T. and Effie Laws Cates, wife Lagretta Cates, daughter Janice Scott and sisters; Zanna, Eloda, Evolyn and Brother Ben. He is survived by his daughter Sandy Kelly, West Deptford, New Jersey. Grandchildren; Louis, Dena, Wendy, Gabbi and Great-grandchildren Amelia, Margot, and Sophia. Sisters; Naomi Seay (Del Rio), Doris Lynch (Knoxville) and Bea Freeman (Del Rio). He leaves behind several nieces and nephews. There will be a visitation in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel on Friday February 22, 2013, 6:00-8:00PM with the funeral service on Saturday February 23, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. burial will follow at the Cates Cemetery.
