Mrs. Edna M. Barbee

Mrs. Edna Marie Thomas Barbee, age 80, of Newport, passed away Sunday evening, July 16, 2023 at Brookdale Browns Creek Assisted Living in Maryville.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Newport where she was very active in the Heart Menders Knitting and Crocheting Group, and the annual Christmas Bazaar and decorating of the church. She loved gardening and antique shopping. Mrs. Barbee was a former employee of Rich Industries in Midvale, OH for many years and built several friendships during that time. She was a 1961 graduate of Tusky Valley High School in Massillon, OH. Mrs. Barbee also volunteered at local Bread Basket.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Michael Barbee; mother Mae McCreery; step father Marvin McCreery Sr.; mother-in-law Viva Barbee; father-in-law Harold Barbee; brothers Marvin McCreery Jr. and Finley “Bill” McCreery; brother-in-law Dan Knepper; sisters-in-law Phyllis (John) Liberatore; Marjorie Barbee and Ruth Barbee; brothers-in-law Jerry Elliott, Clyde W. (Sandy) Barbee, William E. (Veronica) Barbee, Robert Barbee and Harold (Gladys) Barbee,
Survivors include her daughter Diana Marie Harper of Sevierville, TN; son David Michael Barbee of Seattle, WA; grandchildren Brandon Scott Harper (Tiffany Meredith-Breidenbach) of Etna, OH and Vanessa Marie Harper (Ross Ogle) of Pigeon Forge, TN; great-grandchildren Knox Michael Harper, Evan Jacob and Mason William Breidenbach all of Etna, OH, Michael Dodge and Katie Joy Ogle both of Pigeon Forge, TN.; sisters Maxine Elliott of Mineral City, OH and Connie Knepper of East Sparta, OH; brother David McCreery of Mineral City, OH; sisters-in-law Georgia McCreery of Uhrichsville, OH and Judith Barbee of Dover, OH and brother-in-law John C. Barbee of New Philadelphia, OH. Additional survivors include several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including a lifelong friend Nancy Yoho of Massillon, OH.
The family will host a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2023 at First United Methodist Church in Newport.
