Fred E. Beaver was born September 25, 1931, in Parrottsville, TN to Gladys Henry and Homer Beaver, He moved to Michigan in 1935 with his family where he would meet the love of his life, Joan Beaver, in college at the University of Michigan. They were married for 67 years and had 2 children, Michael (Linda) and Jillian Ottinger (Barry). They have 5 grandchildren Erin Kalb (Casey), Zachary Beaver (Sarah), Kole Tabler, Victoria Bottoms and Samantha Ottinger, and 5 great grandchildren,
Fred became an Army Ranger during the Korean War and continued on to be a training instructor for the Rangers in Dahlonega, GA. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1958, with a major in economics. While still in college, he stated Beaver’s Bike & Hobby Shop in Ann Arbor, MI and ran it for 15 years. He taught German at Belleville High School in Michigan, He became a licensed gemologist in the 1970’s and sold diamonds for many years. He was a pilot accumulating over 18,000 hours of flight time in his long aviation career. He also was a flight instructor, teaching many people to fly and sharing his passion for aviation with his son Mike, teaching him to fly at 10 years old.
Eventually, he moved back to Parrottsville, TN where he bought the family farm. He joined the Ruritan Club of Parrottsville and became the national director. He helped organize the Cocke County branch of Habitat for Humanity and helped build 19 houses in the community. He operated a Fixed Based Operation in Gadson, AL. He was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church where he served as Treasurer for several years.
The family would like to thank Caris Hospice and the staff at Asbury Place, Beech and Chestnut units, for all their work and care. Thank you so much!
A funeral service will be held 11:30 A.M. Saturday August 5,2023 in the Costner-Maloy & Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Norman Deal officiating. Interment will follow in New Home Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. Saturday prior to the service.
