JC Holt of Newport passed away on Tuesday, October 27th at his home in Newport.He is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Suzy Holt of Bybee, Brothers Drewry Holt of Salem, NJ and Fred Holt of Bybee, sister June Dawson of Newport, wife Elsie "Pat" Holt; Son, Nathan Holt; Son-in-laws Walt Dennis and Robert Hale, brother-in-law; Donald Dawson, father and mother-in laws; Bill and Marie Henry.He was also the Business agent for the local union including Vernco, Detroit Gasket, Modene, JC worked at Vernco/Emerson for several years and was also the Business Agent for the Sheet Metal Worker. He was a veteran of WWII.JC attended Reidtown Community Church. He was the first choir director that Reidtown had. He taught several singing schools in Cocke County and had 2 gospel groups of his own: The Hilltop Quartet (JC & Pat Holt, Daughter Carol, John Johnson, Charles Stevenson and Fred Holt) then later The JC Holt Family (JC, Pat, Sharon, Delores and Carol). He was also the first choir director at Crossroad Tabernacle. He is also accredited for starting several gospel groups in this area.He is survived by wife, Janie Henry Holt; Children, Sharon Hale of Newport, Roger (Kay) Holt of Cookeville, Carol (Brent) Adams of Newport, and Delores Dennis of Newport; Grandchildren, Keith (Reta) Holt of Newport; Andee (Chris) Presnell of Parrottsville; Lee (Stephanie) Holt of Alabama; Crystal (Rob) Chambers of Dandridge; Ashley (John) Stiffler of Dandridge; Asa (Susanne) Adams of Erwin; Jason (Tonya) Holt of Maryville; Nathan (Brittany) Dennis of Newport; Miriam (David) Ramsey of Newport, Great grand- children; Isaac Crum, Addison Holt, Abigail and Alivia Chambers, Micah, Taylor, Kate, Jonathan, Preston and Addie Holt, Lorelei Dennis and Gracie Adams, adopted grandchildren Heather and Riley Shaub; Brother-in-law, Runah (Dana) Henry, Sister-in-law Joy (RT) Lawson, several nieces and nephews.The family would like to extend a special "thanks" to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice.Family will receive friends Thurdsay, October 29, 2015 from 4:00pm-8:00pm at Brown Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 11:00am Friday, October 30, 2015 at Reidtown Community Church with Rev. Rob Chambers and Rev. Randy Swan officiating.
