Mrs. Leatrice M. Costner's Obituary
Mrs. Leatrice M. Costner, of Newport, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Newport Convalescent Center.
As a young child she was taught to trust in His faithfulness and to follow her Savior. God has now given her eternal rest. She slipped away peacefully on Tuesday morning, at the age of 86.
She was a relentless source of guidance to her family and to the staff of Costner-Maloy Funeral Home. For several years she served the funeral home as an office manager, secretary and receptionists. Mrs. Costner also completed a funeral director apprenticeship with the State of Tennessee, but due to her advancing age and an unexpected decline in her health, which require a long period of rehabilitation, she was no longer able to assist with visitations and funerals. It was with much regret and disappointment that her difficult decision to retire soon followed. Although she was less visible at the funeral home, her presence and influenced endured until her passing.
Mrs. Costner was preceded in death by her husband Geter Costner; daughters Gladys Marie Costner and Betty Jo Shelton; an infant son; an infant great grandson Gabriel A. Costner; parents Lawrence and Mary Ellen Sisley; sister Laverne June Sisley and an infant brother Myron Thomas Sisley.
Survivors include her sons Donnie Costner and Daniel (Mae) Costner all of Newport; granddaughters Jessica Costner (Alex Mowry) of Johnson City, Danielle Costner, and fiancé Adam Edwards of Gatlinburg and Julie Shelton McCullough of Greeneville; grandsons Johnny (Lorie) Shelton and Jeff (Pam) Shelton all of Greeneville; five great grandchildren. Additional survivors include son-in-law John Shelton of Greeneville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Graydon and Sarah Mathis of Cosby, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her Costner-Maloy Funeral Home family.
The funeral service will be held 8:00 pm Saturday evening, October 10, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. James Bennington, Rev. Marta Cogburn and Pastor Don Adams officiating. Mrs. Costner will be laid to rest Sunday afternoon, October 11, 2015. The family and friends will meet at 1:45 pm at Resthaven Memorial Gardens for the 2:00 pm entombment.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Saturday evening at the church prior to the service.
