Ms. Linda Barger Smith's Obituary
Linda Barger Smith "Mimi” of Newport, Tn. (born March 25, 1947), beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend died Wednesday, January 19, 2022 while occuping her favorite place: home.
She was preceded in death by her parents Doyle and Sue Barger of Parrottsville, Tn.; spouse Richard B. Smith of Parrottsville, Tn.; son-in-law Robert G. Chambers of Franklin, Tn.; and special sisters-in-law Louise and Betty Smith of Florida.
Survivors include her husband Dan Anderson Metcalf, of Newport, Tn.; children Whitney Smith Chambers-Woods (Brad), of Fairview, Tn.; Allison (Eric) Manes, of Newport, Tn.; Bert Metcalf and Jessica, of Morristown, Tn.; and her brother Bob (Patricia) Barger, of Parrottsville, Tn. Her greatest loves were her granchildren: R. Alex Chambers, of Miami, Florida; Arin Chambers, of Nashville, Tn.; Jim (Lassiter) Denton, of Dandridge,Tn.; Bo (Taylor) Denton, of Newport, Tn.; and Beck Manes, of Newport, Tn. Also, her great-grandchildren Charleigh and Caroline Denton and a great-grandson due in July 2022. In addition she is survived by her beloved nieces Cari Beth (Brian) Lee and Keira, of Farragut, Tn. and Casey Williams and Jaxon, of Rutledge, Tn. Included in this list would be life-long friend, Diane Smith Lyles, of Parrottsville, Tn. and special care-giver Jodie Hall.
“Mimi”, as she was called by everyone who knew her, graduated from East Tennessee State University and began teaching. She served her tenure at Parrottsville Elementary School and retired from the Cocke County School System. She was active in her community and church. One organization that was near and dear to her heart was the Newport Theater Guild and its members. Mimi greatest joy in life came when she was laughing with her family and friends in her backyard laughing or by the river. She was and her family will be forever grateful to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice, especially Carla Grooms.
A private service will be held in March.
