Mrs. Mabry Dean Smith's Obituary
Mrs. Mabry D. Smith
01/26/1930 – 11/06/ 2024
Mrs. Mabry Dean Finchum Smith, our beautiful mother, left this earth Wednesday, November 6, 2024 heaven bound for a glorious reunion.
God and family was her top priority. She loved her whole family dearly, including her siblings, nieces and nephews. And she was loved dearly.
She grew up attending Nough First Church of God in Del Rio, TN and raised her children at the same church. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society and a youth leader with her best friend, Jewell Dellinger. In later years, she attended the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Greeneville, TN.
She went back to school in her mid 40's to become a Licensed Practical Nurse at Cocke County Baptist Hospital in Newport, TN and retired 17 years later.
She was, also, an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for herself and her family.
Mom loved family get-togethers and picnics in the mountains. She enjoyed tending to her beautiful petunias in the summer, feeding the birds, and watching all the wildlife. She befriended the neighborhood dogs and always had a treat for them, especially enjoying visits from her friend, Sparky.
Dad called her " the best cook in the country" and we all agreed. She cooked daily for her family with a big spread on Saturdays and an even bigger one on holidays that included green beans and corn that she had put up herself.
Christmas with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all the chaos was her absolute favorite!
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur B Smith; son-in-law, Doug Couick; daughter-in-law, Regina Brooks Smith; parents, Charles V Finchum and Annie Laura Sexton Finchum; and her siblings.
She is survived by her children, Kathy Couick and Terrence Smith; daughter-in-law Amy Smith; grandchildren, Jason Smith, Adam Couick, Roxanna Couick, Teran (Jimmy) Ford, Aaron Smith, Tyler Smith, and Reese Smith: great grandchildren, Alannta Ball, Paizleigh Ford, Boedy Smith, and Willa Smith.
Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2024 at Jonestown Cemetery for a 11:00 a.m. graveside service with Rev. Randall Frisbee officiating.
The Family would like to express a special thank you to Smoky Mountain Hospice for their care.
Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Costner-Maloy & Brown Funeral.
