Mrs. Margaret Lavonia Palmer's Obituary
Mrs. Lavonia Palmer, age 84, of Newport, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2017 at
Physician’s Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.
She was a member of First Baptist Church. She taught school for forty one years starting in a one room school house in Houston Valley and eventually retiring from the Cocke County School System. After her retirement she continue to serve as a substitute teacher and tutor. She also served as a volunteer at the Bread Basket.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Palmer and parents Fred Parks and Nell G. Parks.
Survivors include her children Sandy (David) Bradshaw of Oak Ridge and Bill (Susan) Palmer of Newport; grandchildren Caroline Bradshaw and Elizabeth Bradshaw both of Oak Ridge, Alex Palmer and Hannah Palmer both of Newport; brothers Bobby (Lola) Parks, Jack (Annette) Parks and Gerald (Linda) Parks all of Parrottsville; brothers-in-law Jim Palmer of Morristown, Fred Palmer of Newport, Gary (Rhonda) Palmer of Lexington, Kentucky, Danny Palmer of Cleveland, Ohio and Everett C. (Claudette) Palmer of Ida, MI; sister-in-law Myrna Palmer of Cleveland, Ohio.
Additional survivors include many beloved nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday evening, October 16, 2017 in the Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Rich Lloyd officiating.
Family and friends will meet at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, at Union Cemetery for the 10:00 a.m. interment.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at Costner-Maloy prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Building Fund at First Baptist Church of Newport, 261 East Broadway, Newport, Tennessee 37821.
