Norma Jean Mooneyham, 89, of Newport, went home to her Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday afternoon, April 18, 2024. She was a faithful member of Newport Church of Christ, always seated on the last pew, oftentimes surrounded by her children and grandchildren and near her sisters Pula Lee and Imogene. Norma was born in Newport, TN on May 28, 1934 into a large family and grew up on a farm with horses, cattle, and chickens. She attended Cocke County High School and business school, with her working life including jobs in the lab at Stokely Van Camp and in the offices of Blue Ridge Shoe Company.
Norma is preceded in death by her husband James, parents Charlie and Elizabeth Moore, stepmother Sarah Shelton, brothers J.L. (Tooke), Joe Dick, Earl, Arvine and Oake, half sister Norma (little Norm), sister Alice, and daughters-in-law Kathy Mooneyham and Denise Mooneyham.
Norma is survived by her devoted children she called her “youngins”, Russ Mooneyham, Lisa Mooneyham (Roger Schaeffer), Donnie Mooneyham, Randy Mooneyham, Jeanie Ribble (Scott), Scotty Mooneyham (Beverly), and her “double-loved” grandchildren Macey Brown (Derek), Jake Mooneyham (Cloe), Josh Schaeffer, Dusty Vaughnb (Travis), Austin Mooneyham (Kat), Matthew Mooneyham, Michael Mooneyham (Jasmin), and Zachary Ribble, and great grandchildren Jaylin and Connor, and a great grandchild on the way ( Michael and Jasmin), sisters Paula Lee Inman and Imogene Webb, and many nieces and nephews.
Norma welcomed every new member of the family and loved them as she loved her own children. She had many adventures with her children and grandchildren, beach vacations to Virginia and Florida, trips to Dollywood, shopping for computer gadgets and just spending time at “Mamaw’s” during the summers and presiding over big family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Norma was an embodiment of Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven” (KJV).
Cremation Arrangements entrusted to Costner-Maloy & Brown Funeral Home.
