Honoring and celebrating the life of Robert Eugene Woods, age 89 of Newport passed away June 3, 2018 at his home.Robert was born to mother Sarah Woods, Newport, TN October 23, 1928. He grew up the youngest of two sons and graduated Tanner High School. He joined the US Marine Corps on September 13, 1946 at age 17. He served honorably during the Korean War. He returned from the military where he attended and graduated from Morristown College where he studied Brick Mason and met and married his loving and devoted wife of 30 years, Emma Jean McDowell until her death April 1979. Robert was retired from Glades, Inc Naples, FL where he worked as a project superintendent for 27 years.He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jean (McDowell) Woods, mother, Sara Woods, brother, Edward Barnett (Kate) Woods, grandson, Jason Woods, nieces, Glenda Stewart, Mary Woods, and Janice Betha, nephew, Edward Barnett Woods, Jr., and great niece, Kalenda Knight.He is survived by his children, Edmund (Stephanie Stewart) Woods, Roddy (Victoria Lane) Woods of Newport, TN, Odell Buford of Knoxville, TN and Felipa (Eddie) Davis of Nashville, TN, and beloved companion, Siriserm (Jane) Meckler, grandchildren, Riley Woods of Newport, Jayson Covington of Nashville, Samantha Woods and Sabrina Woods-Mallory of Ft. Myers, FL, Laura Temple of Atlanta, GA, Samantha Proffitt of Morristown, and Cory Culberson of Dandridge, great grandchildren, Imani, Sara, Josiah, Micha Covington all of Nashville, TN, Passion, Precious, Mirah and Myiah Woods, and Breanna, Dorian, Jr., and Darius Mallory all of Ft. Myers, FL, and Jalissa Temple of Atlanta, GA.Special mentions to his devoted great nephew, Derrick Woods of Newport, TN, and his tireless devotion that was greatly appreciated, loving niece, Sandra Grace of Santa Rosa, CA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.A special “Thank You” to Amedisys Hospice for their wonderful care of our father.He will be deeply missed.A public visitation will be on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Brown Funeral Home between the hour of 5:00pm-6:00pm. A private Going Home Service (Immediate family only) will be held June 6 in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Samuel Dzobo, Lay speaker, Michael Hannon, Bro. Johnny Bugg, and Pastor Rosie Cuberson officiating. All friends are welcome to stop by Brown Funeral Home to sign the condolence book.
