Mr. Wayne David Hazelwood's Obituary
Mr. Wayne David Hazelwood, age 50, of Newport, passed away, Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Newport Medical Center.
He was a devoted father and grandfather and loved his children and grandchildren dearly. Wayne was fascinating by the many stories told of local moonshiners, and he spent many hours gathering facts about the art and craft of Moonshining.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Harley and Mary Sane, Charles and Aileen Mathis, and Ralph and Georgia Hazelwood.
Survivors include his sons Justin Hazelwood, Corey Hazelwood and Rodney (Candrea) Hazelwood all of Newport; grandchildren Sara Hazelwood, Emily Hazelwood, Isaac Hazelwood, Brailyan Hazelwood, Brently Hazelwood, Jacob Hazelwood and Miya Hazelwood all of Newport; mother Brenda Gentry of Newport; father Jackie Mathis of Johnson City and the mother of his children Vanessa Waters of Newport. Additional survivors include several cousins and friends including special friends Steve Slagle of Bakersville, North Carolina and Donnie Williams of Newport.
The funeral service will be held 7:00 p.m. Friday evening, October 18, 2019 in the Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Goude officiating. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 a.m. Saturday morning at Union Cemetery for the 10:00 a.m. interment.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Costner-Maloy prior to the service.
